ABOUT THE PERSON
FRANZ „FRANKY“ SCHIEMER
Born on 21 March 1986 in Haag am Hausruck, Franky Schiemer took his first steps in football at SV Taufkirchen an der Trattnach. In 1996, he moved to SV Ried, where he played in various youth teams before making his professional debut in the Austrian Bundesliga in 2003.Â
Two years later, he moved on to Vienna Austria, where Schiemer finally matured into an international player. In 2009, the move to FC Red Bull Salzburg was another formative step in the defensive specialist's career. Schiemer played a total of 310 competitive matches as a professional footballer, scoring 30 goals in the process. He played 25 matches for the Austrian senior national team and scored 4 goals.
Alongside his sporting career, Schiemer completed a part-time master's degree in project and sports management at the SME Academy.
After hanging up his football boots, Schiemer started out as assistant coach to Thomas Letsch at FC Liefering, was then appointed sports director at SV Ried and moved back to FC Red Bull Salzburg as assistant coach to Jesse Marsch in 2019. He stepped down from this role in the 2020/21 season.
In the months that followed, he dedicated himself to building up TIEFGANG sports GmbH and in March 2022 followed Jesse Marsch's call to the Premier League to join Leeds United. The relegation project was successful and Franky subsequently worked for Leeds as a coaching consultant until the beginning of 2023. Under Jesse Marsch, he was subsequently also with the Canadian national team as Assistant Coach, Set Piece Analyst and Head of Player Development. Since June 2023, he has been applying his broad expertise as an external consultant for FK Austria Vienna and since September 2025 also for the FC Schalke04 in.
